Dear Reader-
If you have read me much over on GOODEness Gracious, you know that I am a HUGE fan of Gooseberry Patch Cookbooks which makes them a perfect fit for my food blog.
And, while it is true that one can be as decadent as one chooses with their homestyle recipes, some fail to recognize that they have tons of great lighter recipes that are packed full of flavor without packing on the calories… and there are also tons of recipes that can easily be modified….
And these healthier options and potential lighter recipes can be found in the pages of almost any of their books.
Now I am not claiming all their books are “light” cookbooks… but let’s face it, most light cookbooks are just good recipes lightened up… and the one thing GP Cookbooks are known for are good recipes… from the best cooks in the nation– home cooks.
Year 2 Change means making lasting changes for our family and with that comes balance…
One thing that has held me back for years (and perhaps some others) is that when people make a health change there is this pressure to “detox”, join the latest (fill in the blank) “go_____-free” or eat nothing but two almonds and a head of cabbage… okay perhaps I am over-exaggerating a bit… but not by much.
So I am on a mission this year is to find ways to cook up dishes that we (and hopefully you) love that are both GOODe to your taste buds and your waist line
SOOOO… that is my very long way of introducing a new series here and on GOODEness Gracious…
And I don’t know a better way to kick off a series than with a great giveaway.
My dear friends at GP have sent me a couple of my favorite cookbooks to share with you… starting with Fresh from the Farmstand.
Now, I have actually reviewed this book (and given away a coveted copy) over on GG before, but since I have been cooking out of it for the last week or so, I thought it might be a great one to start with…(oh, and it even includes a couple recipes from yours truly
).
I grabbed this book because the other day Family of Farmers treated me to a visit to a local farmers market on a tour of several Indiana farms and gave me and my friends a huge bag of GOODeIES.
Soo, I have been cooking up a storm making all kinds of things from the plentiful gift we received and my already stocked pantry and fridge… and GP has helped me out with Fresh From the Farmstand…
Recipes like Zucchini and Rice (coming soon to GOODEness Gracious).
Super yummy Beef, Barley and Kale Soup (Coming soon to As Goode As It Gets)
BTW- I think Puddie is in LOVE with this recipe…
And these amazing tomatoes that are OH-so GOODe on their own and also perfect over some mixed greens. (Recipe Coming Soon to GOODEness Gracious).
All of these recipes and more will be shared over the coming weeks — including their nutritional content.
I will also be tackling a few recipes in the book that could be lightened up a bit… like the super yummy Whole Grain Blueberry Coffee Cake which we already love, but I think I can trim a little off of it.
BUT, in the meantime, how about that giveaway
If you are reading this via email or reader, remember to click through to enter the contest via the widget on the site.

GOODe Luck!
Disclaimers: GP is giving me the book to giveaway to you… oh and Family of Farmers are my peeps (read:client) and they gave me the yummy produce loot. And as always, affiliate links are used.

We are eating healthier by cooking everything from scratch. By not using fillers or boxed goods it is so much better for us. By using foods we canned this summer we know what we are eating. Besides it does not take that much longer to cook from scratch.More should try it. I even help young moms learn to cook. I love seeing the smile on their faces when they cook something that they like!
Michelle

If you want to eat healthier I found something that gives you the convenience of pre-packaged foods. Make your own mixes. There are plenty of cookbooks on the market (try amazon.com) & the web for mix recipes. I’ve been making homemade mixes for 30 years & would NEVER consider going back to buying those little expensive packets with strange ingredients. My favorite books are “MAKE A MIX” and “MAKE YOUR OWN GROCERIES”.
Jeanne
Gooseberry Patch books are wonderful! I have a large collection and it remains exciting to continue to collect them. I love Vickie and Jo Ann and admire them for building their wonderful business.I am enjoying your site. Thank you for sharing with us.

My husband and I have started the Insanity workout program, and it’s kicking out butts! But we are sticking with it, we are on week 4, and I do have to say I am starting to see a difference. Not in weight lost so much, but in how I feel!

I always enjoy your blog and especially your recipes that you share. Now that you have been working toward your two year challenge it is great to see how you have lightened recipes to fit your plan. With fall now around us and the end of the harvest near, it will be nice to get in the last of the produce and put it to good use.

My husband’s employer has started a contest to help urge the employees to lose weight. Last year I started cooking better, then we slacked off, mostly getting bored. I’d been wanting a cookbook that woud give me ideas for eating vegetables in interesting ways (and to try to get off starches-or at least reduce them). I saw this one and just haven’t had a chance to buy it. I’m glad you are cooking out of it so I can see what it is in. It’d be nice to win a copy if possible.
Rachel Madsen

I am already doing something to make a chnage in our eating habits and that is curbing the urge to fast food dine. LOL more work for me but the wild child boys are saying they like my meals a lot better than the fast food places. Did I mention I sneak veggies in almost every single thing I cook! I am a huge fan of Gooseberry Patch!!! If I get this one it will be shared between my daughter and I lol and I have turned her into an excellent cook as well.
Debbie
I haven’t had the opportunity to own a Gooseberry Patch cookbook and would love to win one. Thank you for sharing this contest with us.

I love following your blog and seeing your recipes you post from Gooseberry Patch cookbooks. Now that I’ve had surgery for a knee infection that has put a definite crimp in the amount of movement I’m allowed I’m trying to cook lighter and to loose or keep at the same weight. You are a real inspiration.
Cris
Thanks so much Robin! Praying for a quick recovery for you!
